Hickory Veterinary Hospital, located in the Great Bridge section of Chesapeake, Virginia is a full-service Veterinary Hospital providing the finest in health care for your pet. We have been serving the veterinary needs of Chesapeake since 2003 and are proud to be members of the Hickory and Great Bridge communities.

WELL ANIMAL CARE

The doctors and staff at Hickory Veterinary Hospital are dedicated to helping you keep your pet healthy. Our health maintenance program includes annual examinations, vaccinations, parasite control, dental care, spay/neuter, nutrition, and diagnostic testing.

We also offer preventative care such as weight managementl, dental prophylaxis, dietary consultation, and arthritis prevention which may lengthen and improve your pet's quality of life.

SICK ANIMAL SERVICES

Hickory Veterinary Hospital offers accelerated appointments for our sick clients. If your pet is ill, please call our office at (757) 548-1548. Our receptionists handle calls and will arrange for your pet to be seen as soon as possible. Pets are seen on a triage basis, which means the most critically ill pets are seen first. Our receptionists should be able to advise you of any potential wait. Please note that our veterinarians are unable to discuss problems or offer advice over the telephone without a thorough examination.

ON-SITE LABORATORY AND PHARMACY

Hickory Veterinary Hospital offers an on-site laboratory and pharmacy for the convenience of our clients.

We are able to perform routine laboratory tests such as CBC, Chemistry Panel, Electrolytes, Urinalysis, Fecal Examination for Parasites, Giardia, FeLV/FIV, Lyme, Ehrlichia, and Heartworm.

With our on-site pharmacy, most prescriptions can be filled at the time of the office visit. By law we are only able to fill prescriptions for pets that have been examined by a veterinarian at our hospital within the past year.

Prescription requests are filled during our regular office hours.

RADIOLOGY AND ULTRASOUND

Hickory Veterinary Hospital offers on-site radiology and ultrasound services, allowing for prompt and comprehensive treatment of your injured or sick animal.

Radiographs are read immediately by one of our licensed veterinarians. Ultrasound imaging, or sonography, is a method of obtaining images from inside the pet through the use of high-frequency sound waves. Ultrasound is excellent in identifying fine lesions involving structures of the abdomen and chest. and in characterizing cardiac disease.

SURGERY

If surgery is determined to be the best option for your pet, you are in good hands. Hickory Veterinary Hospital offers on-site surgery daily.

When possible and indicated, we employ minimally-invasive techniques such as endoscopy and laparoscopy to reduce post-operative discomfort and speed recovery. Our hospital-wide dedication to state-of-the-art pain management ensures your pet a comfortable recovery.

In addition to our surgical laser surgery methods, Hickory Veterinary Hospital offers a Class IV Therapy Laser. The therapy laser aids in the relief of arthritis as well as post-surgical pain.

BOARDING

If you need to board your pet, you'll be pleased with our climate-controlled, roomy kennel area and our large fenced-in grassy play area. For the safety and comfort of your pet, we adhere to a very strict set of boarding policies and procedures which ensures that your pet has a wonderful and pleasant stay. Your pet will enjoy fresh air and outdoor play time in our fenced-in play area.
